My first Bento Box by Tabascofanatikerin My first Bento Box by Tabascofanatikerin
Today in the morning I made my first bento box filling, ready for work.
And yes, it's not very pretty or beautifully arranged but for the first time I cared more about what comes in the box and how to make it.

What's in the box:

- Fried tofu, marinated in Teriyaki sauce
- Sushi rice with onigiri seeds topping (I planned real onigiri which are rice balls but the rice constantly fell apart :(. I have to find a better way or rice for the next time)
- One or two nori sheets (sea weed sheets, buried under the tofu *g*)
- Tamagoyaki (omelette which includes some leaf spinach soaked in little soy sauce)
- Cherry tomatoes
- Edamame (boiled soy beans, a little bit salt was added)

And of course the cup of green tea is NOT part of the bento ;) but it was my breakfast tea and it's a Japanese one so I thought it would fit well here in the picture.

Although I had to realize how much work and time you need to invest in a bento box this won't be my last. I won't do this every day but I have collected a lot of filling ideas already :)

Thank you very much :)
But why being "brave enough"? Sure it needs a little more time and work than making a sandwich for example but it can also be fun and is worth it when you can take a little compact "buffet" with you to school, work or whatever :)
What would you put in the box?

I just looked at your first bento and I wouldn't say that mine is better.
First: You succeeded with your onigiri ;)
Second: Your bento at least has some special design, mine is just a collection of food.
That's something! ;)

There's probably some sushi chef that would whack me across the head for saying this, but if you stir the rice while it's still hot, you'll cause it to release more starch, therefore becoming more sticky and holding its shape better.

Hmm, I'll try this out when practicing the next time! But I guess one mistake was also not having wet hands (wether with water or salt water or soy sauce or whatever) while trying to form onigiri.
Thanks for the tipp even if it won't work as wanted ;)

Your bento box is nicely
prepared and neatly arranged ^u^
The tamagoyaki looks so delicious! *o*

Out of curiosity, how do you take your bento to work?
I want to take my bento to school but I don't know if
I keep it in a lunchbox with an icepack or something....
do you use a icepack or anything?

Thank you! :aww:
The tamagoyaki was delicious, I already like the combination of egg & vegetables but with the bit of soy sauce it gets really tasty.

Personally I just make sure the box won't open itself for sure with an extra rubber band (a bigger one) and put the box in a plastic bag. That's it. I also put the plastic bag in my rucksack but putting it in a little bag may be all you need.
I also wasn't putting the bento box in the working place's fridge and during the 4 or 5 hours the food was fine. You just have to make sure that the food isn't steaming anymore when you close the box. I heard this would just unneeded develop water in it.

Yummy, it sounded good ;w;<333

Oh Okay, thank you!
I just wasn't sure how to keep
my food warm and safe to eat haha
Thanks for the tips!

I guess it's more recommended to take food with you in a bento box that could also be eaten when it's not really warm. Or if you can warm the food you wanna have hot up in a microwave when it's lunch time (but without the box! ;)).

Well, at least it's meatless ;) It tasted good btw.
My next bentos would be healthier (more vegetables, less fried stuff).
Thanks for the comment :)
