This is my tribute to JewWario (Justin Carmical), a former reviewer of That Guy with the Glasses who created videos about Japanese video games and other fun stuff (like candy). He also had cameos in TGWTG productions.
On January 23rd 2014 a tragedy happened when he committed suicide, probably because of depression. He was 42 years old.
Two days later, when his wife confirmed it online, I was deeply shocked and saddened by the news and I'm still shocked.
I don't claim to be one of his biggest fans or something but there are so many TGWTG reviewers and shows and JewWario was at least one where I have taken a look at many times. I have always enjoyed his reviews and his cameos, he seemed to be a very funny guy, always amusing and amused himself. But I haven't watched all what he has done so I didn't learn that he suffered from depression until after his death.
As someone who has lived with depression and suicidal thoughts for many years until now I can at least relate to his feelings...I think. But he still seemed to be a happy, beloved person with a lot of fans supporting him. It hurts to think that there was still something leading him to this decision.
My thoughts go to his wife, his family and his friends.
Now a few words about the painting: I felt like I needed to pay SOME tribute to JewWario a.k.a. Justin. Again, I don't claim to be a very big fan or expert of his works so I didn't want to line up different characters/cosplays of his or games he has reviewed.
I also chose not to paint or draw something too gloomy.
So I decided to create more like a heartwarming motif with something even warmer out of the Super Mario game universe: A Fireflower.
I hope you like it.
The title is a reference to JewWario's last video performence, out of the lyrics of "Two Jews who love Mario": www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRKyCn…
